ProTech Global partners with EnerHy to advance chloride‑resistant corrosion protection

ProTech Global has partnered with EnerHy CDT and Loughborough University to develop corrosion‑inhibitor solutions that protect reinforced concrete and other critical assets in chloride‑rich settings. The aim of this multidisciplinary project is to extend the service life of infrastructure and reduce maintenance‑related emissions.

Founded in 2016, ProTech Global is a leading independent specialist in weatherproof jacketing and corrosion control across HVAC, process, construction, and marine and offshore applications.

The project will design and test vapour‑phase corrosion inhibitor (VpCI) blends that form a protective barrier on metal surfaces. In coastal locations, or where de‑icing salts are used, chlorides can penetrate concrete and undermine that protection, accelerating rust formation, cracking and spalling.

Spanning structure and property characterisation across Loughborough University’s Chemistry Department and the Wolfson School of Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering, the research will evaluate which blends perform best, how chloride levels influence vapour movement through concrete, and how they affect the durability of the inhibitor layer on steel.

Dominic Brodrick, Commercial Director at ProTech Global, said:

“The challenge is maintaining protection in chloride‑heavy conditions. Collaborating with EnerHy CDT and Loughborough helps us move from lab insight to proven, easy‑to‑apply VpCI formulations, validated under realistic conditions and built for dependable long‑term protection of insulated systems.”

A fully funded research studentship is available as part of this project, with applications supported through EnerHy CDT at Loughborough University.
