EnerHy Taught Programme and Skills Lead Professor Sheryl Williams delivered a powerful inaugural lecture at Loughborough University on 11 June, championing inclusive, joyful, and transformative engineering education.
Since beginning her journey at Loughborough as a solar energy PhD researcher in the Centre for Renewable Energy Systems Technology (CREST), Sheryl has been widely admired for her positivity, creativity, and unwavering dedication to educational innovation – continually pushing boundaries to make engineering more accessible, engaging, and equitable.
She shared her innovative approach to inspiring future engineers – starting as early as age five – through hands-on, design-led learning that opens doors for underrepresented groups.
Her lecture invited reflection on how teaching can drive societal change, urging educators to make higher education more relevant, responsive, and equitable.
The celebration was made even more special by the presence of past colleagues from, including her former PhD supervisor, Ralph Gottschalg, Head of the Fraunhofer Center for Silicon Photovoltaics who travelled from Germany to mark the occasion with her.
Many congratulations from all at EnerHy to Sheryl – keep on inspiring!
