Soorya Mudiyansele wins prestigious Armourers and Brasiers Gauntlet Trust Prize

EnerHy researcher Soorya Dananjaya Bandara Kulathunga Kulathunga Mudiyansele has been awarded the prestigious Armourers and Brasiers Gauntlet Trust Prize, presented by the Worshipful Company of Armourers and Brasiers.

This highly respected award recognises outstanding research at the master’s and PhD level in materials science, with nominations submitted by supervisors and judged by an independent expert panel.

Soorya received the prize for his MSc by Research thesis at Cranfield University, titled Improvements of electrochemical water splitting efficiency by using economically viable Co/CoPs/TiO2/NiF electrocatalysts. His work focused on developing affordable and effective materials to improve the efficiency of green hydrogen production. It also led to an invention disclosure for potential intellectual property protection.

Now continuing his research as a PhD student in cohort 1 of the EnerHy CDT, Soorya is working on innovative solutions for producing green hydrogen from seawater.

Under the supervision of Professor Upul KG Wijayantha (pictured with Soorya at his graduation) and Professor Ewan McAdam, his project aims to make the process more efficient, durable, and cost-effective – important steps toward making green hydrogen production more scalable and sustainable.

Visit Soorya’s project page to find out more about his research as part of EnerHy.

Congratulations to Soorya on this well-earned recognition – and to all at EnerHy CDT for supporting and advancing cutting-edge clean energy research.
