EnerHy has launched the first in a new series of films showcasing the groundbreaking work of our inaugural cohort of research students who share in their own words the focus of their research, why it matters, how they plan to carry it out, and the potential impact it could have on the journey to Net Zero.
As the UK celebrates major clean energy milestones – such as the recent approval of the Mona Offshore Wind Farm – it’s clear that offshore wind is a cornerstone of the country’s sustainable energy future. But behind the scenes of these massive floating turbines lies a critical engineering challenge: how to keep them stable in some of the UK’s most demanding marine environments.
Meet mechanical engineering researcher Izzy Stansbury, from The University of Strathclyde. In partnership with ESB, Ireland’s leading energy company, Izzy is developing advanced anchoring solutions for floating offshore wind farms in key regions including North East England, Scotland, and the Celtic Sea.
With major projects like Mona and Hornsea 3 progressing rapidly, Izzy’s research is helping to lay the foundations for a more secure and resilient renewable energy system. Her work not only addresses a vital technical challenge but also supports the broader transition to a low-carbon economy.
Stay tuned as more films from the EnerHy Cohort 1 series are released, each offering a unique window into the next generation of clean energy research.
